Indian wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha has announced that he will retire from all forms of cricket after the omngoing Ranji Trophy season.

New Delhi: Indian wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha has announced that he will be retiring from all forms of cricket after the current Ranji Trophy season. Saha, a Test specialist for India, last played for the country in a Test match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in December 2021. The wicket-keeper batter is currently playing for Tripura in the Ranji Trophy.

Saha made his debut for India in a Test match against South Africa in Nagpur in 2010 but had to wait for his chances till MS Dhoni decided to retire from the longest format. Saha became a regular in the Indian Test team at home after Dhoni’s departure but he was soon pipped by Rishabh Pant, who quickly cemented his spot in the team.

Saha was sidelined from India’s Test squad in 2021 after the Indian team management decided to move on from some senior players including him. The Bengal veteran played 40 Tests for India, amassing 1353 runs, including 3 tons and six fifties. Saha also enjoyed a successful IPL career, playing for several teams, including 2022 champions Gujarat Titans.

“After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember,” Saha wrote in a tweet, confirming that the ongoing Ranji Trophy season will be his last.
