Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JDS leader on Wednesday while addressing supporters in Hassan, revealed that the BJP has agreed to give up three seats to the regional party. According to Kumaraswamy, JDS would be contesting Lok Sabha elections in Kolar, Hassan and Mandya.
While seeking votes for Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, Kumaraswamy got emotional and asked voters to save the JDS
“We are contesting in three seats-Hassan, Kolar and Mandya. This has been decided with the BJP leaders. They might have agreed to give another two seats, but, I don’t have the strength to conduct elections,” Kumaraswamy said.
The JDS has decided to field-sitting MP Prajwal Revanna from Hassan. The regional party might give a ticket to former minister CS Puttaraju from Mandya. The party is to decide a candidate from Kolar. The official announcement over seat-sharing is yet to be made by the leaders of the two parties.
There was pressure on Kumaraswamy to contest from Mandya, but the former CM is said to have refused the offer citing health issues.
Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Mandya. Independent candidate Sumalatha had won the polls.
In September last year, JDS joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to fight Lok Sabha elections along with the BJP in Karnataka.
The BJP is yet to release candidates for Karnataka and is expected to be announced in the next few hours. The BJP is expected to deny tickets to at least eight sitting MPs to give a chance to fresh faces.
