A man sued his university after the university alleged that AI was used in writing exam answer. But what really happened? To know, read on!

New Delhi: AI has become widespread, and people are using it in various ways to create content. From drafting emails and writing essays to crafting marketing copy and generating creative stories, AI assists in a wide range of writing tasks.

Its ability to process language and generate coherent text has made it a valuable tool in fields like journalism, customer service, content creation, and even personal communication. As AI technology advances, it continues to play an increasing role in helping people express ideas, streamline workflows, and access information quickly and efficiently.

University says student used AI to write exam answers

Now, a university ahs alleged that a student wrote his exam answers using AI and has refused to pass him. However, the student has said that the university’s allegations are baseless and has also sued the university.

The OP Jindal University claimed that Kaustubh Shakkarwar, a Master of Law (LLM) student, used artificial intelligence (AI) to respond to exam questions. According to a report by Bar and Bench, Shakkarwar, who is studying Intellectual Property and Technology Laws, took an exam for the course “Law and Justice in the Globalising World” on May 18.

The court has requested a response from OP Jindal Global University, with the next hearing set for November 14.

What did the student say?

Shakkarwar’s lawyer argued that the university lacks a clear policy on AI use in exams and that students were not given any guidance on its application, likening the situation to issues of plagiarism. “The university is silent to state that use of AI would amount to ‘plagiarism’ and thus, the petitioner cannot be prosecuted for what is not explicitly prohibited,” the student’s advocate has said.

Meanwhile, the student maintains that he did not use any AI tools to write his answers and has been questioning why the university has not been able to provide any evidence against him.
