TGSP personnel protest at Battalion campus in Telangana.
Hyderabad: The state government has dismissed 10 personnel from Telangana Special Police (TGSP) who protested and made demands for better working hours and better transfer policy.
Over the last week, police personnel have been agitating for their demands to be fulfilled at battalion campus in Telangana as well on the streets of various places across Hyderabad.
On Sunday, at least 39 personnel were suspended on charges of misconduct.
‘Undermined battalion discipline’:
The police department stated that the personnel have been dismissed for disruptive behaviour, engaging in actions that undermined battalion discipline, threatening operational cohesion and tarnishing the image of the force.
Their dismissal was ordered under Article 311 (2) (b) of the constitution of India for ‘compromising public interest’.
Action against indiscipline:
An investigation has been ordered to examine the specific incidents and senior officials were asked to enforce strict discipline and respectful work environment. Action will be taken against anyone who violates conduct standards.
lndiscipline in uniform forces is a very serious matter that attracts provision of the Police Forces (Restrictions of Rights) Act and the Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act and liable to be penalised as per law. Violation of rules attracts criminal action, the police department said.
State police headquarters said “It is to appeal to TGSP personnel and their families as senior police officers, we are examining grievances on merits, personnel are urged to carry out their duties as usual.”
What are their demands?
Protesting personnel and their spouses demanded relief from 26 days of continuous work without a break.
Expressing concerns over frequent transfers of their husbands, the women called for a single police policy so that police personnel could perform their duties in one place. They also expressed their disappointment over their husbands being forced to stay away from their families for a long period.
