New Delhi: In Premier League 2024-25 matchday seven, Sunday’s fixture saw two games being played simultaneously, treating fans to a high-voltage of action before the international break. Aston Villa hosted Manchester United at Villa Park. While the Villans had a decent run across the competition, United were under a lot of scrutiny for their performance this season.
On the other hand, Stamford Bridge saw Chelsea host Nottingham Forest in a thrilling contest. Chelsea had a brilliant run of form, consistently winning by big margins and were clearly the more dominant side of the two. Nottingham Forest’s recent form had helped them stay in the top half of the points table.

The two sides were unable to break the deadlock with a total of six shots fired in the first half, which is the joint lowest this season in the Premier League. Manchester United failed to get on the scoring sheet for the sixth time in the last seven games. While United have been called out for their weak defence, it was their attack that lacked spark in the first half. Aston Villa’s first half, too, was quiet for the most part, with Morgan Rogers and Jaden Philogene looking the closest who came to scoring for the home side.
After the break, both sides were expected to press and take away maximum points before the international break. Both sides did try to break into each other’s box to take away three points. At times in the second half, it seemed like the Villans would take the game home, but they missed too many chances. In stoppage time, Matthijs de Ligt missed a good pass as Philogene collected the ball, only for his shot to be blocked brilliantly by Diogo Dalot. Villains will sit in fifth place at the end of a rather boring game, while Manchester United will go into the international break in 14th place.

At halftime, this game, too, didn’t have a scorer as both Chelsea and Nottingham Forest played some intense football. The two teams, though, came close on a number of occasions on scoring, with Cole Palmer almost scoring right before the halftime whistle only to hit the pole after Noni Madueke worked well too. The closing minutes were exciting for Forest, too, as they came close to opening the scoring, with Murillo almost scoring in the 39th minute, but Robert Sanchez did well to thwart the effort.
Within four minutes of the restart, Chris Wood found the net, and Nikola Milenkovic rose high to put James Ward-Prowse’s diagonal free-kick in the danger area. Wood’s managed to move it past the keeper and put Forest ahead. Chelsea were not to be outdone as they equalled in the 57th minute when Madueke scored through a well-guarded box into the the bottom corner after receiving the ball from Palmer on the right and cutting it through his left foot. Despite being granted a 13-minute stoppage time, the game ended without a winner. Chelsea, of course, would be content to finish in fourth position at the end of matchday seven, while Nottingham ended their weekend at ninth.
