CM Eknath Shinde stated, “Ever since the establishment of the state, there was a demand for seven bridges along the Coastal Highway. The demand which is being fulfilled today should be considered as a Diwali gift for Konkanis.’

Mumbai: The north-bound Thane Creek Bridge has been opened from October 13 which will provide a great relief to the motorists travelling to and from Navi Mumbai.

On October 13 the new Thane Creek Bridge on the Sion-Panvel Highway, Vashi was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. State Minister of Public Works Dadaji Bhuse, former MP Rahul Shewale, Former MLA Tukaram Kate, Managing Director of MSRDC, Anil Kumar Gaikwad were also present during the event.

Eknath Shinde also laid foundation stone for the construction of seven bridges along the Coastal Highway in a bid to connect Mumbai with Maharashtra-Goa state border. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been assigned with the task of executing the projects.

South-bound bridge to open soon

Eighty per cent of work on the south-bound bridge is already done. The two bridges having three lanes each are part of the larger Sion-Panvel Highway. The two bridges are being built on either side of the Highway which is expected to decongest traffic at the creek. The total cost for building the two bridges is Rs 599 crore.

Travelers currently face delays due to Ro-Ro ferries or detours when crossing creeks along the route. An MSRDC official revealed that the total length of the seven planned bridges combined is 26.70 km, and they will be constructed for ₹7,851 crore. These bridges will be located at Dharamtar, Kundalika, Agardanda, Bankot, Kelshi, Jaigad, and Kunkeshwar on the Rewas-Redi Coastal Highway.

‘Bridge should be taken as Diwali gift’

Shinde stated, “Ever since the establishment of the state, there was a demand for seven bridges along the Coastal Highway. The demand which is being fulfilled today should be considered as a Diwali gift for Konkanis. These creek bridges will boost the tourism of Konkan apart from helping in its development.”
