As per the initial reports, three people – an elderly couple and their house help – were present in the house when the fire took place. The couple were charred to death, while the house help died of suffocation from the smoke.
The entire bed, in the room where the elderly couple stayed, was burnt.
Mumbai: Three people were killed after a massive fire broke out in an apartment on the 10th floor of a residential building in Oshiwara area of Lokhandwala in Mumbai on Wednesday morning. The fire brigade reached the spot after receiving the information and efforts are on to douse the blaze. The cause of the fire is not clear yet.
The fire was reported around 8 am on 10th floor of Riya Palace building on 4th Cross Road at Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri area of Mumbai. As per the initial reports, three people – an elderly couple and their house help – were present in the house when the fire took place. The couple were charred to death, while the house help died of suffocation from the smoke.
They were taken to the hospital by the fire department and police, but were declared brought dead. The deceased were identified as Chandraprakash Soni (74), Kanta Soni (74), and Pelubeta (42).
The neighbours said that the children of the deceased couple live in Singapore and US. There was an elderly couple and their servant in the house. The entire bed, in the room where the elderly couple stayed, was burnt. When neighbours saw the smoke coming out of the house, they tried to open the door but no one responded. They immediately informed the police and fire brigade.
All three occupants of the house were taken out by breaking the door and immediately rushed to the Cooper Hospital. However, the doctors declared them brought dead. The fire was brought under control around 9 am, a fire brigade official said. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
