The People’s Court has ordered an investigation into Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over an alleged scam in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority. An FIR has been filed against Siddaramaiah and several others. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has expressed support for Siddaramaiah, stating that he believes the Chief Minister has committed no wrongdoing and will not resign.

Bengaluru: The People’s Court on Friday directed the Mysuru Lokayukta to investigate Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding an alleged scam in Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Following this order, an FIR has been filed against Siddaramaiah at the Mysuru Lokayukta.
The FIR was registered under the supervision of Lokayukta ADGP Manish Kharbikar and led by SP Udesh, based on directives from the Special Court for Public Representatives.
The court ordered the FIR to be filed under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), but the specific sections of the law applicable to the case against Siddaramaiah have not yet been disclosed. The complaint was lodged by RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna following which the court ordered to register FIR against the Chief Minister.
FIR filed against Siddaramaiah
The Lokayukta has filed the FIR under various acts, including the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Benami Transactions Act, and the Land Acquisition Prevention Act, as specified by the court under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Siddaramaiah has been named as accused number one (A1), with his wife Parvati listed as accused number two (A2). Additionally, two other persons, Mallikarjun Bamaida (A3) and Devaraju (A4), have also been included in the FIR.
SP Udesh is expected to provide updates on the investigation every Thursday. Following the FIR registration, he visited the Lokayukta headquarters for discussions with senior officials.
Siddaramaiah will not resign from the post of CM: Mallikarjun Kharge
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the law will take its course in this matter. He emphasised that those involved with MUDA are free to take necessary actions, as it is an autonomous body and not obliged to respond to every question from the government.
Kharge expressed his support for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, asserting that if any personal wrongdoing occurred, Siddaramaiah would be responsible, but he firmly believes that the Chief Minister has committed no crime.
He alleged that attempts are being made to tarnish Siddaramaiah’s reputation and that of the party. Kharge said that there is no question of Siddaramaiah resigning from his position as Chief Minister.
