Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa expressed his displeasure against the BJP for denying a Lok Sabha ticket to his son KE Kantesh from Haveri. Eshwarappa blamed veteran party leader BS Yediyurappa for not getting the ticket for his son and said that he would decide on contesting as an independent from Shivamogga on March 15.
Eshwarappa has called for a meeting with his supporters on March 15 in Shivamogga. After considering the opinion of his supporters, Eshwarappa is expected to announce his decision.
“Me and my son Kantesh had met BS Yediyurappa. He had assured me to get a ticket for Kantesh from Haveri Lok Sabha seat and promised to campaign for him. Kantesh has been working in the Haveri area for around a year now. Now, Yediyurappa did not keep his word and did injustice to me,” Eshwarappa said.
He also said that he is under pressure to contest the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from the Shivamogga constituency.
“My supporters are putting pressure on me to contest as an independent against Yediyurappa’s son. I am a supporter of Modi. My followers are demanding I contest as an independent and later support PM Modi. I have called a meeting on March 15. I will announce my decision after gathering my supporters’ opinions,” the BJP leader said.
The BJP has fielded former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai from Haveri and Yediyurappa’s son BY Raghavendra from Shivamogga.
The BJP high command had denied Eshwarappa a ticket from Shivamogga during the Assembly elections last year. Since then Eshwarappa was lobbying for his son Kantesh to get a ticket from Haveri.
In the second list of candidates released on Wednesday, the BJP named 20 names from Karnataka. In which, nine sitting MPs have been denied a ticket including Pratap Simha, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Sadananda Gowda.
