Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s political secretary Naseer Ahmed and Anil Kumar met Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti to resign as MLCs at Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday. However, they were stopped by Kolar district in-charge minister Byrathi Suresh. After the drama at the Chairman’s cabin, the two MLCs said that the CM had asked them to wait till evening.
Meanwhile, three MLAs including Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar are scheduled to meet Speaker UT Khader this evening. Kolar MLA Kothur Manjunath had said that they would be submitting their resignations to the Speaker. The Five Congress legislators are upset with the party for reportedly finalising the name of Food and Civil Supplies Minister KH Muniyappa’s son-in-law for the Kolar Lok Sabha ticket.
“CM and the DyCM spoke with us and asked us to wait till evening. We will discuss with them and then take a decision,” Naseer Ahmed said.
Former Speaker Ramesh Kumar’s faction is demanding a ticket to the right sect of the Scheduled Caste (SC) in the form of CM Muniyappa.
Minister Muniyappa is demanding a ticket for his son-in-law KG Chikkapeddanna, who is opposed by Ramesh Kumar and his team from the Kolar district.
Earlier, the three MLAs had booked their flight tickets to Mangaluru to meet the Speaker, but, Khader informed them that he would return to Bengaluru by this evening.
The two factions had met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in the last two days and lobbied for their respective candidates. After reports of Congress finalising Chikkapeddanna’s name for the Kolar ticket surfaced, the five Congress leaders announced their resignation.
After the Congress leaders came to know about the resignation, the high command rushed Byrathi Suresh and Chikkaballapura MLA Pradeep Eshwar to stop them from submitting their resignations. The Congress is yet to officially release the name for the Kolar seat.
