The BJP had given up three seats- Mandya, Hassan and Kolar for the JDS. The JDS has finalised the names for Hassan and the candidates for the Mandya and Kolar will be finalised by this evening.
Former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy held a core committee meeting in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru: JDS leaders on Tuesday held a core committee meeting and finalised the candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. JDS is fighting the polls in Mandya, Hassan and Kolar.
After the meeting, Kumaraswamy said that the core committee has empowered him to decide on candidates from Mandya and Kolar. Kumaraswamy hinted that he would contest from Mandya and the candidate from Kolar would be finalised by this evening. He also said that the JDS national president HD Deve Gowda has finalised Prajwal Revanna as the candidate and there is no change in it.
The official announcement is expected by this evening after another round of meetings with legislators and former legislators from the Mandya and Kolar districts.
“We wanted to field Nikhil Kumaraswamy or CS Puttaraju. But, the people of the district are demanding me to contest the elections. This is the district which gave seven MLAs to make me the CM. I am holding another round of meetings with MLA and former MLAs from Mandya. The official announcement would be made by this evening,” Kumaraswamy said.
Kumaraswamy is under pressure from Mandya JDS leaders to contest elections. Meanwhile, Channpatna JDS workers had demanded him not give up the seat to contest Lok Sabha polls from Mandya. Kumaraswamy is an MLA from Channapatna of Ramanagara district.
Regarding Kolar, Kumaraswamy said that the party has finalised the three names for the constituency. Samruddhi Manjunath, Mallesh Babu and Nisarga Narayanaswamy are in the fray.
“Kolar MP S Muniswamy met me and sought to contest from JDS ticket. But, he has agreed to work together. I have called a meeting of Kolar leaders, the official announcement will be made by this evening,” the JDS leader said.
