Karnataka High Court allows state government to conduct board exams for classes 5,8,9 and 11

The unaided private schools association had opposed the board exams for classes 5,8,9 and 11 claiming the government order is against the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation norms.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday stayed the single-bench order and allowed the state government to hold board exams for classes 5,8,9 and 11. The state government had issued an order last year mandating board exams for classes 9 and 11.

The Government Order was challenged by the Karnataka chapter of the Registered Unaided Private Schools’ Management Association (RUPSA). After hearing the plea, the single-bench of the HC on March 6 scrapped the Government Order.

The state government had approached the divisional bench of the HC challenging the single-bench order.

Meanwhile, the RUPSA had got a stay order on conducting exams from the Supreme Court until the matter was heard in the divisional bench of the HC.

The state government had announced the board exams for classes 9 and 11th in September last year. The board exams were introduced for 5th and 8th standard students in 2022. The Karnataka government had ordered educational institutions including aided and unaided schools to conduct board exams.

The RUPSA argued in the court that the state government’s order was against the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) norms.

Now, the HC has asked the state government to complete the assessment exams for the classes for this academic year. The HC also asked the state government to consult the stakeholders before notifying the exams for next year.
