Google’s Pixel A-series launches, the Pixel 9a, the company’s next mid-range smartphone, is expected to make its debut in May 2025. Pixel 9a will come in four colour options, including two new ones, and will have a slightly bigger and slimmer design than the Pixel 8a.
According to reports by Android Headlines , the Pixel 9a will come in four colour options at launch: Iris (bluish-purple), Peony (pink), Obsidian (black), and Porcelain (white). Although Porcelain and Obsidian have long been features in Google’s Pixel range, the Pixel 8a’s Aloe and Bay shades have given way to Iris and Peony. The addition of the Peony shade to the Pixel 9 series suggests that the design language will remain consistent across all Pixel smartphones.
Wider, Thinner, and Taller Design
With measures of 154 mm in height, 73 mm in width, and 8.5 mm in thickness, the Pixel 9a is expected to be a bit taller and broader than the Pixel 8a. In contrast, the Pixel 8a has dimensions of 152.1 x 72.7 mm and an 8.9 mm thickness. Overall, the fresh look could make the phone slimmer, but it might come at the cost of a little smaller battery. A significant modification is reportedly being made to the camera configuration; leaks suggest a flat, flush-mounted camera housing that departs from Google’s traditional “visor” style.
Upgrades to Hardware and Software
According to leaked CAD renderings, the Pixel 9a’s twin back cameras will be housed in a pill-shaped module, resembling designs used in previous LG models such as the G8 ThinQ and V60 ThinQ. Google’s Tensor G4 chipset, which is compatible with the technology seen in more expensive Pixel variants, will likely power the phone. Like its predecessors, the Pixel 9a is expected to launch with Android 15 and get seven years of software upgrades.
Google Pixel 9a: Announcement Expected
The Pixel 9a is expected to launch in 2025, following Google’s custom of revealing its A-series phones at its yearly Google I/O event in May. Even though tech items are sometimes announced earlier in the year, Google’s mid-range products always arrive in May. The Pixel 9a is probably going to be publicly unveiled at the same time as the Pixel 8a, which launched in May 2023.
