New Delhi: A Gen Z employee’s leave request went viral on social media. Unlike long explanatory lines, the email was simple. Netizens were impressed and called the letter “spot-on”. They claimed it was time for managers to stop asking leave reasons to their employees.
Siddharth Shah, an X user, shared a screenshot of an email he received from one of his Gen Z employees. The letter requesting leave was sent with the subject heading “Leave on 8th November”. In the body, the employee wrote, “I will be on leave on 8th Nov 2024, bye.” Shah shared the leave application with the caption, “How my Gen Z team gets its leaves approved.” The post quickly gained traction on social media. Netizens could not stop lauding the employee. Many appreciated the individual’s uncomplicated letter. They stated that employees should not be put in a position to explain the reasons for their leaves to their managers. Further, users said that employees should be denied leave, especially when they are entitled to take them.

“Normalise this. People shouldn’t have to give reasons if they want to take an off. It’s their right,” said one netizen. Meanwhile, some managers took to the comments section to explain how times have changed concerning the fashion of leave requests and applications.
One manager claimed that one of his Gen Z team members declared a sudden one-week leave during an important project due to his break-up. Though he tried to reason with the team member, the person was adamant and said that he wanted to go to the mountains to get over his heartbreak.
