New Delhi: Aston Villa and Argentine star goalkeeper Emiliano Dibu Martinez has again been honored with the Yachine Trophy. Awarded to the world’s best goalkeeper, this year’s honor cements Martinez as the first-ever player to secure the title back-to-back.
Since the trophy’s inception in 2019, it has been won by Alisson Becker, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Thibaut Courtois, and Martinez. Martinez won the World Cup in 2022 and played a key role in his country’s Copa America triumph last season. He kept a clean sheet in five of the six games including the final where they beat Colombia 1-0. He has also kept 15 clean sheets for Aston Villa in all competitions and helped his side qualify for the Champions League.

Last July Dibu won the Golden Glove at Copa America, his 2022 World Cup Golden Glove award, and his 2023 FIFA The Best trophy are a testament to his consistency at the top level.
Martinez began his career at Arsenal but only made 38 appearances for the club before making a move to Villa in 2020. He has made a total of 171 appearances for Villa and has made the No.1 shirt his own.
