Delhi is set for Chhath Puja 2024 with over 1,000 dedicated ghats, a public holiday on November 7, and extensive arrangements including medical services and Maithili cultural events at major ghats, making the celebration accessible to all.

New Delhi: Chhath Puja festivities will start today evening. The festival, which was initially popular among Purvanchalis, is now celebrated widely in northern parts of the country. During Chhath Puja, several residents of Delhi had to go to their home towns in UP and Bihar. However, now the Delhi government makes several arrangements in the city to facilitate devotees to celebrate the festival in the city itself with pomp and fervour.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi apprised people about gave information about the arrangements made by the Delhi government for the Chhath festival.
Delhi: Chhath Puja 2024 holiday
The AAP-led Delhi government has declared a holiday on November 7 across the city. CM Atishi said, “This year too, the Delhi government is organising a grand Chhath Puja. Arghya will be offered to the Sun God on November 7 evening. The Delhi government has declared a holiday on November 7.”
Chhath Puja in Delhi: Over 1,000 ghats built
In addition to this, more than 1,000 Chhath ghats have been built across Delhi where puja will be performed on November 7 and 8. Atishi added that before Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi in year 2014, there were only 60 ghats for Chhath Puja. However, the AAP-led Delhi government has now built over 1000 ghats for the devotees, she said.
Atishi added that the AAP government is building over 1,000 Chhath ghats across Delhi so that no devotee has to travel over 1-2 km from their home for worship.
Medical facilities at Chhath Puja ghats in Delhi
The Delhi CM added that this year, medical facilities are also being provided at major Chhath ghats. She added that Maithili programs are also being organised for devotees at several ghats. She added, “Events are also being organized by the Delhi government at these ghats, water supply is provided by the Delhi Jal Board, arrangements for tents and lights are being made by the Revenue Department of Delhi.”
