Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals have decided to part ways with Sourav Ganguly ahead of IPL 2025.

New Delhi: In a major shake up in the Delhi Capitals, the franchise has decided to part ways with their Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. For better results in the forthcoming edition of the cash-rich league, the DC franchise has decided to overhaul the staff, with Ganguly being one of the main members.

According to a report in Times of India, former India cricketer Venugopal Rao will replace Ganguly as the Director of Cricket and it is also being learnt that the veteran will be the Women’s Director of Cricket. The report also mentions that Ganguly won’t be involved in working and functioning of the Capitals side in the IPL.

Ganguly joined DC in 2019

Former BCCI president Ganguly joined the Delhi Capitals after his tenure with the Indian Cricket Board ended in 2019. It is also being learnt that Venugopal’s former India teammate Hemang Badani will be the new head coach of the franchise after Australian veteran Ricky Ponting resigned from the post few weeks back.

There is another possible shake up which could take place in the DC franchise in the next few days. According to another report published in TOI, Rishabh Pant can be relieved of his duties as the skipper of the franchise. The team is looking for a new captain and same could be finalised in the next few days. Meanwhile, DC finished 6th on the points table in the IPL 2024 edition with 6 wins and as many losses and 14 points. They were eliminated from the cash-rich league after a match featuring Sunrisers Hyderabad was abandoned.
