Hyderabad: A husband and wife died of asphyxiation after a major fire engulfed their home when firecrackers kept at their home caught fire in Rein Bazar, Yakutpura area, police said on Tuesday.
The couple identified as Usha Rani and Heera Mohan Lal, were preparing food for Diwali, when sparks from the gas fell on the crackers box and burst, spreading smoke in the two-bedroom house. The couple died of smoke inhalation, police said based on preliminary investigation.
Another person in the house, Shruti, a 15-year-old girl also inhaled smoke and sustained injuries, has been admitted to the hospital and her condition is serious, police said. The two victims were in their mid 50s. Investigation is on.

In a separate incident in another part of the city, a visually impaired couple in their 60s, lived with the corpse of their son for four days, unaware of his death. They were reportedly found in a semi-conscious state at their home in Nagole after the neighbours reported on foul smell emanating from their residence.
When police reached their home, they found the couple’s youngest son K Pramod’s body decomposing. The police said that the son may have passed away in his sleep four days ago.
The couple were later placed in the care of their eldest son K Pradeep, who lives in Saroor Nagar.
