‘Counting of votes in a fair, transparent manner hallmark of democratic process’: Congress after meeting EC | India News

Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, met the Election Commission on Wednesday evening registered a strong complaint, alleging that Electronic Voting Machines were hacked.

New Delhi: A day after a huge setback in Haryana Assembly polls, Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, met the Election Commission on Wednesday evening registered a strong complaint, alleging that Electronic Voting Machines were hacked. Claiming that the hacking took place in 20 seats, the party later said that it submitted seven documentary evidence to the commission, while proofs for 13 others will be submitted in next two days.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Khera said that the party requested the commission to seal all machines and keep them secured until investigations are completed. The Congress submitted evidences of hacking in Dabwali, Karnal, Rewari, Hodal, Kalka, Panipat City, and Narnaul.

Congress expresses concerns over EVMs

Khera further said that the delegation brought to notice of the EC batteries of some batteries showed 99 percent charge in the morning of the counting day. This is impossible as same machines and same batteries were used on the day of the polling and were kept in the strong room. “So after so many days, the battery doesn’t get consumed at all and it shows 99%. It is unnatural… That’s what we brought to their notice,” news agency ANI quoted him as saying further.

“Counting of votes in a fair, transparent and accountable manner is the hallmark of any electoral process that claims to be in consonance with the principles of free and fair elections and the doctrine of the level-playing field as envisaged by the Constitution,” the party memorandum to the EC said.

Hooda questions election results

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who was also part of the delegation that met the EC, expressed shock at the results and said that Congress is always ahead when ballot boxes are opened and falls behind when EVM votes are counted. Notably, even as several exit polls predicted a massive win for Congress last Saturday, the BJP turned the table by winning 48 seats of the 90-member Assembly and are set to form the government. The Congress won in 37 seats.
