Chennai airport to face disruptions till Oct 8 due to Air Force Day preparations

Flight schedules at the international airport will be disrupted from Oct 1 to 8 due to airspace restrictions for the upcoming Air Force Day Parade, according to the airport director. Aerial performances, including flypasts and aerobatics, will lead to temporary closures, ranging from 15 minutes to two hours.

Chennai: The Chennai International Airport will experience disruptions to flight schedules from October 1 to 8 due to airspace restrictions for the upcoming Air Force Day Parade. The temporary closures, ranging from 15 minutes to two hours, are necessary to accommodate aerial performances, including flypasts and aerobatics.

Passengers are advised to check with airlines for updates on rescheduled flights. The airport and Marina have been designated “red zones” from October 1 to 6, with a ban on drones and aerial objects, except for government use.

Flight Delays, Cancellations Expected at Chennai Airport Due to Air Force Day

The disruptions are part of preparations for the Air Force Day airshow, featuring 72 Indian Air Force aircraft, scheduled for October 6 at Chennai Marina Beach. Rehearsals will take place from October 1 to 8 at Chennai Marina Beach and Tambaram Air Force Base.

Today, 15 flights departing from Chennai and 10 flights arriving have been rescheduled between 1:45 pm and 3:15 pm. In total, 25 flights have been affected. Similar disruptions will occur throughout the week.

The Air Force has put in place security measures to ensure smooth coordination with the airport. Passengers are urged to verify flight schedules with their airlines to minimize inconvenience.

The Air Force Day celebrations will showcase India’s aerial prowess, with the airshow taking place from 11 am to 1 pm on October 6 at Chennai Marina Beach.
