Bengaluru: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that another section of the Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) is on track to be completed by March 2025. Construction work on this section is currently progressing rapidly.
At the beginning of the next year the 21-km stretch which connects Hoskote to the Tamil Nadu border, will be ready to use. To incentivize usage, the government has announced a toll-free period for the initial months of operation. Moreover, toll charges on this new section are expected to be more affordable compared to the two existing sections of the STRR which are Dobbspet-Doddaballapur and Doddaballapur-Hoskote.
The complete STTR is expected to be ready by 2027 and its total length will be 288 km, 45 km of which will fall under Tamil Nadu. The new Hoskote-TN border stretch will make the length of total operation STRR to 102.6 km.

Project to be completed in February-March
“We have received significant progress on the Hoskote-Tamil Nadu border stretch, with 50 per cent of the construction work already completed. We are confident that we will be able to finish the project by the targeted deadline of February-March,” said NHAI (Bengaluru) Project Director KB Jayakumar told DH. He explained that the project is greenfield, which means that it is built from scratch rather than being constructed on existing infrastructure. This is the reason the toll rates will be lower.
Toll charges for car users
- Single journey: Rs 185
- Return journey within 24 hours: Rs 275
- Per kilometre for single journey: Rs 2.2
- Per kilometre for the return journey: Rs 1.68
Additional features of the Ringroad
Jayakumar added that the Hoskote-TN border stretch will have six lanes and like the NICE Road (Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor) an 11-metre-wide depressed median for separating traffic. This route will also link up with the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway (NE 7).
The STRR section starting from Dobbspet to the Tamil Nadu border which is 102.6 km is designated as National Highway 648. Once the STRR is completed it will surround Bengaluru from all sides and end the need for commercial vehicles to pass through the city.
