WhatsApp will get another Instagram-like feature soon in addition to the existing ones. Here is what you must know.
Music On WhatsApp Status Coming Soon, A Instagram-like Experience
In the past couple of weeks, you must have read several news and updates that the Meta-owned WhatsApp has received. A number of those features have already been released and reached out to your respective apps, while there are a few which are still being the talk of the town without any information about the final release. But what is common amongst these is that these features seem similar to the ones that we already have on our Instagram, the photo-video sharing app (that’s how it was introduced in the early phase!)
So, is WhatsApp slowly turning into Instagram? Where’s that line between WhatsApp and Instagram which still makes them different although they share a bunch of similar features and experiences? Let’s have a closer look.
WhatsApp New Features That Resemble Like Instagram
Recently, WhatsApp has rolled out a feature which lets you like the statuses from now on. Plus, there is an option to mention your contacts in the status, just like Instagram, where you add a mention for your followers or the people whom you are following. Before this, the instant messaging app also introduced an option to add filters and backgrounds for video calls for a more personal touch.
Now, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature which will let you search, select and share music in status updates soon. This comes after the new agreement with Universal Music Group, including WhatsApp. “Meta and Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, today announced an expanded global, multi-year agreement that will further evolve the creative and commercial opportunities for UMG artists and Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) songwriters across Meta’s global network of platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Horizon, Threads and, for the first time, WhatsApp,” Universal Music Group said. If you are aware of all the Instagram features, then you must know that Instagram already allows you to add songs directly to your Story.
This is another major step that lets you question the difference between the duo apps.
WhatsApp vs Instagram
Let’s not forget one thing, Instagram is a social media app while WhatsApp has always been a messenger first. It was introduced with a core purpose to have conversations with your friends, family and colleagues — and the purpose still remains the same. What’s changing is the dynamics. It is now getting some more useful features which may make the experience more engaging with your contacts. And the fact that WhatsApp is getting some Instagram-like features is not surprising as both platforms are owned by the tech giant Meta.
