Mumbai: Vir Das is set to make history as the first Indian celebrity to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards, scheduled to take place in New York City on November 25, 2024. Renowned for his sharp humour and unique take on the world, the actor and comedian took to social media to share his excitement about the opportunity.
In a gesture that aligns with his supportive nature, Vir also extended an open call to emerging Indian designers. Far from being a mere mention, it was a sincere invitation for up-and-coming talents to design his outfit for the global stage. Designers, labels, and fashion students were encouraged to submit their portfolios, with the promise of full payment and credited recognition for the winning creation.
Vir Das posted on his Instagram, “Alright folks. I’m going to be the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards. I’m going to wear something Indian from home. I’m also not going to wear a fancy designer. They have enough cash and clients. So we’re gonna launch someone new. So if you’re a budding designer, label, student, and you can put together super formal stuff. Send us an email at contact@zazuproduction.com. I would attach details on your stuff and experience, please. We get a lot of emails. I want to be clear. This is super duper ultra formal wear at a very high level for a very large audience. You have to make me look good in formal wear which is a task I assure you 🙂 It HAS TO BE INDIAN OR INDO-WESTERN FUSION. I do not need a tuxedo. We will pay you for your work, pay for the outfit and credit you. You will have to work with my team to get the vision and design right.”

Earlier this month, Vir announced his hosting gig for the 2024 International Emmy Awards, sharing a photo on Instagram with a caption that read, “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy host! I can’t wait to host the International Emmy Awards this year. Tremendously honoured and excited!”
In addition to his stand-up comedy, Vir Das has created, produced, and starred in several notable series, including ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier, Netflix’s Hasmukh, and Amazon’s Jestination Unknown. He made an appearance in Judd Apatow’s film The Bubble and is currently developing a single-camera comedy with CBS Studios and Andy Samberg. Additionally, Vir is the lead singer of India’s comedy-rock band, Alien Chutney.
