Srinagar: Sparking a new controversy, National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah on Saturday suggested that the terrorists must be captured by the police or security forces alive rather than being killed. He said that this would help in getting details of masterminds behind the surge of attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in recent times.
The former chief minister further observed that interrogating the terrorists who are could also help in getting valuable inputs regarding the networks that are behind such attacks. Urging the government to probe the Budgam terror attack, he expressed concerns that the attack must be the handiwork of those who wish to destabilise the government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Farooq Abdullah questions timing of attacks
Speaking to the news agency ANI, he questioned the timing of such an attack as the new government was formed in the Union Territory just recently. “We should check if there is an agency who is trying to destabilise Omar Abdullah,” Abdullah was quoted as saying further.
BJP slams Abdullah’s suggestion
Hitting out at him, BJP leader Ravinder Raina asked about the need for such an investigation as everyone knows that terrorism is coming from Pakistan, which is a well-known fact. “We must support our armed forces, police, and security forces. The country needs to fight together against enemies of humanity,” he added further.
Meanwhile, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, while reacting to Abdullah’s s statement said that the latter spent his life serving the people of the Union Territory and that there is no doubt about his integrity. If a leader of such stature is making such a statement then the Centre must take it seriously and try to find out ways on how that situation can be resolved.
