Skoda has showcased the Kylaq sub-compact SUV and it will have a starting price of Rs 7,89 lakh (ex-showroom).
Skoda has finally taken the wraps off the Kylaq sub-compact SUV. It will be the entry level vehicle into their lineup and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Skoda has also revealed that the prices of the Kylaq will start from Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Kylaq is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform that also underpins the Kushaq and the Slavia. This will be Skoda’s third car on the same platform and Volkswagen groups 5th one. The Kylaq looks quite promising and on-paper has been made highly competitive in the market.

Skoda Kylaq: Design
The Skoda Kylaq is a fresh new design. It has subtle hints from the Kushaq’s design but is its own distinctive thing. The headlights are place lower on the bumper and the DRLs run along the top. As is with new modern designs, there are no fog lamps on the Kylaq. From the side, the Kylaq looks like a squished Kushaq but it is somehow more proportionate now. It has one of the longest wheelbase in the segment coming in only after the XUV 3XO. Top end versions will come with 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. At the rear, it features a simple set of headlights and thankfully, there is no lightbar.
The interior is again a simple affair. It has the standard 2-spoke steering wheel we have seen on their other cars and there is a 10.24-inch centrally mounted touch screen infotainment display. The climate controls are still the same capacitive touch buttons which we are not a fan of and you also get a digital drivers display.
Skoda Kylaq: Features
Skoda has gone all out with the features on the Kylaq. There is a single pane sunroof, LED headlights, wireless phone charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered front driver and passenger seats. It also gets ventilated seats, an auto-dimming IRVM and 60:40 split seats.
Safety features will include 6-airbags, traction control, ESP, ABS, hill, hold, a rear parking camera and sensors. Since it is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, we can expect it to perform exceptionally in the safety tests.
Skoda Kylaq: Drivetrain
The Skoda Kylaq will come with a sold 1.0L turbo petrol engine option which also powers the base Kushaq. It will produce 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. It will be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It will still have only a front disc brake setup and since it is stiffer, Skoda has given it a softer suspension over the Kushaq.
Skoda Kylaq: Launch and Pricing
Skoda will come to our roads in the first quarter next year. Skoda will start taking bookings of the vehicle from December. Skoda has also unveiled only the starting price of the vehicle which will start from Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom) which is quite competitive in the market.
