New Delhi: Real Madrid legend and former club captain Sergio Ramos has been searching for his next club since leaving boyhood club Sevilla at the end of last season. Ever since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, the Spaniard has had short spells at PSG and Sevilla and is now on the lookout for another opportunity. He had been strongly linked to clubs outside of Europe, mainly to Saudi Arabian and Brazilian clubs.
He has now emerged as a shock target for one of the top Italian sides, namely Juventus. The Old Lady lost star defender Gleison Bremer to a potentially season ending injury in their UEFA Champions League clash against RB Leipzig and will undergo surgery. They need someone to replace their star defender for the season and according to Italian outlet Tuttosport, the Bianconeri are looking at Ramos as one of their options.
He was one of the standout players at Sevilla last season and could be a vital stop-gap solution for Thiago Motta’s side. A goal-scoring defender throughout his career, the center back made 37 appearances for Sevilla last season in all competitions and scored seven goals for his side in total. Adding a player of Ramos’ caliber will be a smart move from Juventus. Ramos has a wealth of experience which he brings to the table, in addition to his defensive skills.

Bremer was a key player for the Old Lady and was an integral part of Thiago Motta’s plans and losing him would come as a huge blow to the side. There aren’t many players available on the free agent list that can boast the same milestones and achievements as Sergio Ramos so getting the former Real Madrid captain and giving him a taste of Italian football might be a match made in heaven for both the involved parties.
A report from Fichajes states that Juventus are also looking at signing former Liverpool defender Joel Matip, former AC Milan captain Simon Kjaer, and former AS Roma star Konstantinos Manolas, but signing Ramos would be an upgrade over all these options. Ramos is a four-time UEFA Champions League winner and if he signs for the Old Lady, Serie A will be the third major European league on his CV.
