The 37-day-long strike by employees of the Samsung plant has been called off after several rounds of talks initiated by the state government between the protesting employees and the company’s management. State President of CITU, Soundararajan, thanked the Tamil Nadu government for its efforts in ending the strike and fulfilling the employees’ demands.

Chennai: In a significant development, the 37-day-long strike by employees of Samsung’s Tamil Nadu plant has been called off after a series of talks initiated by the state government. The strike, which began on September 9, involved around 1,100 workers demanding better working conditions, wage revisions, and union recognition.

According to a press release from the Tamil Nadu Labour Department, the state government’s intervention led to a breakthrough in the negotiations. The Honourable Chief Minister instructed officials to resolve the strike amicably at the earliest. Consequently, a team of ministers, including the Honourable Minister for PWD, Highways and Minor Ports, the Honourable Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, the Honourable Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development, and the Honourable Minister for Industries, conducted meetings with the concerned parties.

Samsung Strike Over: Samsung Employees Return to Work After State Intervention

After several rounds of talks, Samsung’s management announced various welfare measures benefiting the workers. On October 15, conciliation talks were held before the officials of the Department of Labour Welfare, where representatives from both the management and the striking workers participated.

As per the agreement, all striking workers will immediately return to work, and the management will not victimize workers for participating in the strike. The workers have agreed to cooperate fully with the management and avoid any acts prejudicial to the company’s interests. Additionally, the management will file a written reply to the workers’ charter of demands.

State President of CITU, Soundararajan, expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for their efforts in resolving the strike and fulfilling the employees’ demands. With the strike now over, plant operations are expected to resume normalcy.

The Tamil Nadu government’s proactive role in resolving the standoff has been widely appreciated. The swift resolution of the dispute is seen as a testament to the government’s commitment to maintaining industrial harmony and protecting workers’ rights.
