After the committee submitted the draft of rules of the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand 2024 Act, Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that after the formation of the new government in the state in 2022, we decided in the first meeting of the cabinet that we will constitute an expert committee to implement the UCC in Uttarakhand.

Dehradun: The ‘Rules & Implementation Committee’ constituted under the chairmanship of retired IAS officer Shri Shatrughan Singh for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Uttarakhand 2024 Act in the state, handed over the draft of the rules to Chief Minister (CM) Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat on Friday. On this occasion, Chairman of the Committee, retired IAS officer Shri Shatrughan Singh, member social worker Shri Manu Gaur, Vice Chancellor of Doon University Prof. Surekha Dangwal, Additional Director General of Police Shri Amit Sinha & Resident Commissioner Shri Ajay Mishra were present.

After the committee submitted the draft of rules of the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand 2024 Act, Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that after the formation of the new government in the state in 2022, we decided in the first meeting of the cabinet that we will constitute an expert committee to implement the UCC in Uttarakhand. An expert committee was formed under the chairmanship of retired judge Mrs. Ranjana Prakash Desai. After submitting the report of the committee, it was passed in the State Legislative Assembly on 7 February 2024. After the assent of her Excellency, the President of India, on the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Bill 2024, the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand, 2024 Act was passed on 12 March 2024.

CM Dhami said that the manual of the Uniform Civil Code Act has been submitted by the State Government today. This manual mainly has 4 parts in which the procedures related to registration of marriage & divorce, live-in relationship, birth & death registration and rules related to succession are mentioned. He said that soon in the cabinet meeting, a date will be fixed for effective implementation of this Act in the state. For this, training will also be given to officers and employees.

In view of the accessibility of the general public, a portal & mobile app has also been prepared for this Uniform Civil Code, so that all the facilities of registration, appeal etc. can be made available to the general public through online medium. He said that everyone should get equal justice in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. The bill has been made keeping in mind the empowerment & security of women. Soon this act will be implemented. After India’s independence, Uttarakhand will become the first state of the country which will have the pride of implementing the Uniform Civil Code.

On this occasion, Vice Chairman Infrastructure Monitoring Council Mr. Vishwas Dabar, Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary Mr. R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary Mr. Shailesh Bagoli, Mr. Vinay Shankar Pandey, Special Secretary Mrs. Riddham Agarwal, Director General Information Mr. Banshidhar Tiwari were present.
