The CBI, which had recently filed the chargesheet in the case before the trial court, has has relied on various oral and documentary evidence and forensic and scientific reports to establish that prime accused Roy was the sole perpetrator of rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee woman doctor at the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

Kolkata: A city court on Monday (November 4) framed charges against prime accused Sanjay Roy in the rape and murder case of a trainee woman doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

Roy has been booked in the case under section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Section 66 (which pertains to punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state) and 103 (punishment for murder).

CBI recently filed chargesheet in the case before a Kolkata court

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had recently filed the chargesheet in the case before the trial court, has has relied on various oral and documentary evidence and forensic and scientific reports to establish that prime accused Roy was the sole perpetrator of rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee woman doctor at the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

CBI has relied on various evidence linking Roy to crime

According to the chargesheet filed by the CBI, the CCTV footage, Roy’s mobile phone’s location and call details record (CDR) have proved his presence in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and also at the third floor of emergency building where scene of crime lies during the intervening night of August 8 and 9. The central agency has also relied on various other evidence linking Roy to the alleged crime.

Body of woman doctor was found with severe injuries on August 9

The deceased woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in the night of August 9 when she had gone to sleep in the seminar room of the hospital during a break. The body of the woman doctor was found later that night with severe injuries in the seminar room. The Kolkata Police arrested Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, the following day on August 10 for his alleged involvement in crime.

Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the case

The case was initially being investigated by the Kolkata Police, however, the investigation of the case was later transferred to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court. The Supreme Court also took a suo motu cognisance of the incident and is currently seized of the matter.
