New Delhi: Legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday (November 5) at Delhi’s AIIMS due to refractory shock resulting from septicemia. She was 72. The health condition of the popular folk singer deteriorated and was admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS. She breathed her last at 9:20 pm on Tuesday. She was receiving treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. However, she passed away after a prolonged illness. Her passing coincided poignantly with the first day of Chhath Puja 2024, a festival deeply intertwined with her music, especially in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where her songs are essential to the celebrations. The tragic news has cast a sombre shadow over the festivities, leaving fans mourning the loss of an irreplaceable voice in Indian folk music.

Sharda Sinha expired at 9.20 pm due to refractory shock as a result of septicemia,” said an AIIMS official. The news of Sharda Sinha’s death was announced by her son, Anshuman Sinha, on X. He shared, “Your prayers and love will always be with my mother. Chhathi Maiyya has called her to be by her side. Mother is no longer with us in physical form.”

Her passing coincided poignantly with the first day of Chhath Puja 2024, a festival deeply intertwined with her music, especially in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where her songs are essential to the celebrations.
