His death marks the end of an era for Tata Group and Indian business community. In recognition of his contributions to industry and society, Ratan Tata will be cremated with full state honours.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has declared Thursday a day of mourning in honour of the legendary leader. As a mark of respect, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across government offices in Maharashtra. Many scheduled events for Thursday have also been cancelled in light of the mourning period.
Full schedule of Ratan Tata’s funeral
For those wishing to pay their last respects, Ratan Tata’s body will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point, Mumbai, from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday. The public viewing will allow mourners to honour the memory of Ratan Tata. The cremation ceremony will take place later in the day at the Worli area.
The Tata Trust has released a statement outlining the arrangements for the public to pay their respects. The public can enter the NCPA Lawns through Gate 3 and exit through Gate 2. However, there will be no parking available on the premises.
Amit Shah likely to attend funeral
At 4 pm, the final journey will commence, and the mortal remains will be transported to the Prayer Hall at Worli Crematorium, located on Dr. E. Moses Road in Worli, for the last rites.
Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend the funeral. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be unable to attend as he is currently in Laos for the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits.
