Chennai: The Madras High Court has intervened in a dispute between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Tamil Nadu police over permission to hold route marches and public meetings on Vijayadashami. Justice G. Jayachandran directed the police to consider the RSS’s application, citing last year’s guidelines issued by the court.
The RSS had sought permission for 58 locations, but the police granted permission for only 52, citing reasons such as metro rail works, traffic congestion, and the Dussehra festival for rejecting the remaining six. The rejected locations include Chennai Mangadu, Koratur, and Coimbatore Ratnagiri.

The RSS had alleged that the police did not follow the Supreme Court’s guidelines while denying permission. With the court’s intervention, the RSS is likely to proceed with its Vijayadashami events as planned.
