New Delhi: Cricket Australia has announced the dates for the 2025-26 Ashes series in Australia. The Gabba will host the day-night second Test while Adelaide will host the third Test match as a day game.
Cricket Australia confirmed that Perth will host the first Test of the series from November 21 to 25 and the second pink-ball Test match will be played in Brisbane from December 4 to 8. The Adelaide will host the third match from December 17 to 21. The traditional Boxing Day Test starts on December 26 at the MCG and Sydney will host the last and final Test of the series from January 4 to 8 in 2025.
Adelaide has been Australia’s main venue for the day-night Test matches since the first pink-ball Test in 2015 and has hosted the last two Ashes day-night Tests in 2017-18 and 2021-22. But the South Australian government and CA were keen to give Adelaide a holiday slot due to the Test’s popularity from a tourism point of view.
For the first time in more than four decades, The Ashes series will start at a ground other than the Gabba and it will be the eighth Australian venue since the first match between two teams in 1877. The Aussies have won the last eight Ashes Test matches played in Perth. The second Test in Brisbane will be the third day-night Test at the venue after previous matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
“The 2025-26 Ashes dates align with our recently released seven-year international schedule and we are grateful for the support state and territory governments are providing to enhance and grow our major events. The history and excitement of the Ashes make it one of world’s most iconic sporting events and we are delighted this fierce an electrifying rivalry will extend over two summers in 2025” said CA’s executive general manager of events and operations, Joel Morrison.
