Paris, long known as the ‘world’s most romantic city,’ has lost its title. A recent survey of 2,000 Americans, conducted by Talker Research and Funjet Vacations, revealed that Maui, Hawaii, is now the top romantic destination.
Maui takes the lead
According to the survey, Maui received 34% of the votes, just edging out Paris, which received 33%. Though Paris is still a favorite for many, American couples have chosen Maui as their preferred romantic getaway.
Smaller destinations are more romantic
Interestingly, 69% of the survey participants said they found smaller, hidden destinations to be more romantic than larger, well-known places. Around 45% of respondents also said that lesser-known spots create a better intimate mood for couples to connect.
The study also showed that 69% of people feel more romantic while on vacation compared to their everyday lives. Many couples expressed their affection during vacations, with 55% enjoying romantic walks on the beach, 54% watching sunsets together, and 53% holding hands during their trips.
For most couples, traveling together is seen as a serious step in their relationship. The survey revealed that 76% of participants believe that vacationing together shows commitment, and 72% agreed that spontaneous vacations are exciting and romantic.
