Oppo F27 5G under Rs 25,000 is a solid buy but there are some limitations that you should know before buying.
Oppo F27 5G is priced under Rs 25,000. Is it worth the price?
Oppo has mastered the art of creating unique designs paired with excellent cameras for social media. Whether it’s the Reno series or the F-series, Oppo consistently emerges as a strong contender for mid-range smartphone buyers. Recently, Oppo launched the F27 series, including a standard variant priced under Rs 25,000. This model features a lightweight design, decent cameras, and long battery life.
However, the sub-Rs 25,000 smartphone category is flooded with options. Does the F27 stand out among them? After using it for a month, here are my observations about the Oppo F27 5G.
Oppo F27 5G Design and Display
The design of F-series phones has rarely disappointed. The Oppo F27 5G maintains its unique design language while exuding a premium feel. It comes in two colour options: Amber Orange and Emerald Green; for this review, we received the latter. The matte finish resists smudges and dust effectively.
A noticeable circular camera bump subtly enhances its appearance and allows the phone to rest on flat surfaces without wobbling. This camera bump also features a hidden ring light that glows while charging—a clever touch from Oppo! Additionally, the phone boasts an IP64 rating, making it resistant to dust and water splashes.
Regarding the viewing experience, the Oppo F27 5G sports a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. While the display excels in media consumption, offering great viewing angles and rich colours, it occasionally feels dull, possibly due to the lack of HDR playback capabilities. Its peak brightness of 2100 nits, however, ensures clear visibility even in bright sunlight.
Oppo F27 5G Performance
The Oppo F27 5G’s performance is where it slightly falters. Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G chipset, it handles everyday tasks like browsing, social media, and streaming reasonably well, though occasional lags may occur. For graphics-intensive gaming, it falls short; I experienced stutters while playing titles like Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt Legends. Casual gamers, however, may find the performance satisfactory.
Benchmark results support this assessment, with the Oppo F27 5G achieving a single-core score of 781 and a multi-core score of 1975 on Geekbench. Its AnTuTu score of 456,614 places it behind mid-range rivals like the Tecno Camon 20 Pro (669,372) and Realme 11 Pro (544,527), though it performs slightly better than competitors like the Redmi 12 5G and Poco M6 Pro.
Another drawback is the operating system, ColorOS 14, based on Android 14, which comes with several pre-installed apps and games that feel unnecessary. On the upside, ColorOS offers extensive customization options, and the new AI features, like the AI Eraser tool in the Photos app, effectively remove unwanted objects from images, enhancing its appeal in the mid-range market.
Oppo F27 5G Cameras
In terms of photography, the Oppo F27 5G evokes mixed feelings. It features a 50MP main camera paired with a 2MP depth sensor that captures decent shots in natural daylight or good indoor lighting. The camera adds a slightly warm hue to photos, enhancing their social media appeal, although some shots exhibit oversaturation. The absence of an ultra-wide lens became apparent during a recent trip to Agra, as landscape photos did not meet my expectations.
On the positive side, the depth sensor excels at capturing portrait shots with a natural bokeh effect, though it occasionally struggles with edge detection. The front-facing 32MP selfie camera produces clear images, but it still applies beautification effects even when the beauty mode is turned off. Surprisingly, the night photos come out to be decently well-lit and sharp, unlike many other smartphones in this price range. However, capturing moving objects is still a task.
Oppo F27 5G Battery
No complaints arise in this department. The Oppo F27 5G houses a 5,000mAh battery, providing enough power to last a full day without needing a charge. It supports 45W SuperVOOC fast charging, taking around 1 hour and 20 minutes for a complete charge. This feature benefits users who need a quick recharge, although some competitors in the same price range offer faster charging options.
Oppo F27 5G: Verdict
At Rs 22,999 (currently Rs 20,999) for the 128GB variant, the Oppo F27 5G presents good value for casual users seeking a reliable mid-range smartphone. With its sleek design, vibrant display, long battery life, and decent camera performance, it suits everyday tasks, media consumption, and light photography.
However, the Oppo F27 5G may not satisfy users seeking high performance. While it handles daily tasks without major issues, heavy users or gamers might find its performance lacking.
