JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy chaired a meeting with party leaders in Mandya on Friday. After the meeting, Kumaraswamy said he would convince Nikhil to contest from Mandya.

Mandya: Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of former chief minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy is likely to contest Lok Sabha elections from Mandya constituency. Kumaraswamy on Friday held a meeting with party leaders in Mandya and after the meeting, he announced that he would convince Nikhil to contest from Mandya. He said that an official announcement would be made on March 25.
JDS is contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the BJP. JDS candidates will contest from Hassan, Mandya, and Kolar constituencies. The Congress has already announced its candidate for Mandya constituency. Venkataramane Gowda who is also known as Star Chandru is contesting as a Congress candidate and he has already launched campaigning.
Nikhil also attended the party meeting that was held in Mandya. Nikhil said that his father was undergoing surgery on March 21 and that his father would not be actively participating in the campaigning.
Nikhil lost the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when contested from Mandya
Nikhil Kumaraswamy was defeated by independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Sumalatha, after she won Mandya constituency extended support to the BJP. She also campaigned for the BJP during the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections. Sumalatha wanted to contest from Mandya as a BJP candidate for the upcoming elections, however, she is not likely to get a BJP ticket as the BJP will not be contesting from Mandya because of its alliance with JDS.
Mandya was the stronghold of JDS, but during the 2023 Assembly elections, Congress won six seats in the region and hopes to win the Mandya Lok Sabha seat as well.
