Mumbai: A caller threatened to blow up Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai with a bomb. The call came on Thursday in which the caller threatened that a bomb had been placed at the Dargah and demanded its immediate demolition, using abusive language in the process.
Upon receiving the threat, the Dargah Trust members quickly notified the local police. Responding to the urgency of the situation, the police and a bomb squad team rushed to the site to conduct a thorough investigation. Fortunately, after searching the area, they reported finding no suspicious items or evidence of explosives.
In a statement released by the Mumbai Police on Thursday, officials confirmed that the threatening call was made at the Haji Ali Dargah Trust’s office. The police are now investigating the matter, with Tardeo police registering a case against the unknown caller.
Previous threats to Dargah
This isn’t the first instance of a bomb threat targeting Haji Ali Dargah. In 2022, a similar situation arose when a threatening call was made to the Mumbai Police Control Room.
The caller had claimed that 17 terrorists were planning to blow up the Dargah but abruptly hung up. The police managed to trace the call, only to find out that the caller was a mental patient.
A sacred site
Haji Ali Dargah is not only one of the most popular religious sites in Mumbai but also a symbol of unity among people of different religions. Located about 500 yards offshore in the Arabian Sea, the Dargah houses the tomb of the Muslim Sufi saint Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, along with a mosque. This revered landmark has been a significant part of Mumbai’s cultural and religious landscape for many years, drawing visitors who come to pay their respects and seek blessings.
