Mumbai: Several flights diverted after heavy rains | Check list of affected airlines

On Wednesday evening, Mumbai Airport experienced major flight disruptions due to heavy rain and strong winds. Fourteen flights were diverted, and seven struggled to land, leading to delays averaging 30 minutes, which increased to one hour by 10 PM.

Mumbai: On Wednesday evening, Mumbai Airport faced significant disruptions in flight operations due to heavy rain and strong winds. The adverse weather forced 14 flights to be diverted, while seven others had to reconsider for a second attempt at landing.

The trouble started around 6 PM, with flights experiencing delays averaging about 30 minutes. By 10 PM, those delays had stretched to around an hour. An aviation official noted, “Several flights had to perform a go-around due to the weather,” highlighting the challenges faced by the seven planes that couldn’t land on their first try.

As per the reported information, seven of the diverted flights were rerouted to land in Hyderabad, while four were sent to Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, two other flights landed at Mopa Airport in Goa, and one made its way to Udaipur. With severe air traffic disruptions, airlines have went on to social media to share advisories and updated with their respective passengers from Mumbai.

Airlines announces distortion on social media

“Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected,” reads a social media post by SpiceJet tweeted at 8:22 PM yesterday.

“It’s raining in #Mumbai & flight schedules are impacted due to weather conditions and air traffic congestion. If you or your loved ones are travelling, you may keep a tab on the flight status bit.ly/3DNYJqj and allow ample travel time to the airport,” reads IndiGo’s X post.

With predictions of heavy rainfall in Mumbai today, and severe disruptions in daily life activities, residents and travelers to and from Mumbai are advised to avoid any outdoor activities.
