Mumbai: The much-anticipated Metro 3 Aqua Line is preparing for its official launch, promising to revolutionise daily commuting in the city. With a daily service running for 14 hours, the Aqua Line will operate nine trains, each capable of carrying up to 2,400 passengers. This will enable a remarkable total of 96 trips every day, with trains scheduled to arrive every 6.4 minutes.
The inaugural 12.44-kilometer Phase 1 route will connect Aarey to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), featuring ticket prices ranging from a minimum of Rs 10 to a maximum of Rs 50. However, as per officials, on Sundays and holidays, the trains will commence operations later, at 8:30 AM. The first phase boasts nine operational trains managed by a team of 48 train captains, including 10 women.

Work on second phase expected to finish by year end
Looking ahead, officials mentioned that work on Phase 2 is expected to conclude by December 2024, with full service anticipated for the following year. There are also plans to extend the route to Worli, which will facilitate train reversals. Once fully operational, the maximum fare is projected to be Rs 70.

Seamless connectivity across the city
- Churchgate Metro Station: This station will offer ground-level access to the Churchgate railway station, making transfers between the metro and suburban trains easier for passengers.
- CSMT Metro Station: A new subway will link the existing CSMT station to both suburban and intercity trains, ensuring smooth transitions for commuters.
- Jagannath Shankar Sheth Metro Station: Located within the Mumbai Central railway station, this station will feature at-grade access connecting the metro to the railway station, as well as a footpath to the State Transport bus stand.
- Mahalaxmi Metro Station: Pedestrian access will be facilitated from Mahalaxmi Railway Station to the metro station, along with a foot-over bridge connecting to the nearby monorail station.
- BKC Metro Station: A new paid Sky Walk equipped with travellators will connect the Metro Yellow Line 2B ITO station to BKC, enhancing commuter convenience.
- CSMIA Terminal 1 Station: This station will include a pedestrian walkway at road level directly connecting to CSMI airport terminal 1, along with a subway under the western highway.
- CSMIA Terminal 2 Station: A paid connection at the concourse level will ease travel between CSMIA Terminal 2 station and Metro Red Line 7A, offering seamless access at the airport forecourt level.
