Manchester United to raid Bayern Munich once again in the January transfer window | Football News

Football News

The Red Devils have reportedly identified three current Bayern Munich players that they wish to sign in the 2025 transfer window and will look to make a move for them come January.

New Delhi: Manchester United have had a horrible start to the 2024/25 campaign. Under fire manager Erik Ten Hag has overseen Manchester United’s worst ever start to a season in 35 years, making it their worst start in the Premier League. The Red Devils currently occupy the 14th position on the league table, something that is an unpleasant and unfamiliar sight for every Manchester United fan.

While the sentiment around the club is extremely negative right now, it wasn’t the case before the season started. There was a renewed sense of positivity at the club following Erik Ten Hag’s contract extension and the summer arrivals at the club. The Red Devils signed quite a few young and talented players like Manuel Ugarte from PSG, Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille and Bayern Munich duo of Matthias De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Out of all their signings, the Bayern duo are the only ones that have looked decent so far and it looks like the club will be dipping back into Bayern’s reserves in the January transfer window according to a report from Sky Sport Deutschland. Manchester United are currently struggling in a number of areas across the pitch and the players that they’ve identified can rectify these shortcomings at the club.

Potential transfer targets for Manchester United

The report claims that the Red Devils have identified the Bayern trio of left-back Alphonso Davies, central midfielder Leon Goretzka and winger Leroy Sane. Both Sane and Davies have less than a year remaining on their contracts and will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club come January. Meanwhile, Goretzka, who once used to be one of the first names on the team sheet at Bayern has fallen down the pecking order now.

Theoretically, it totally makes sense for the Red Devils to make a move on these players in January with both Sane and Goretzka not a part of first team plans and Davies looking increasingly likely that he won’t be signing a contract extension at the club. Bayern Munich remain confident that their star left back will sign a deal at the club but he’s long been linked with a move away to Real Madrid.

While signing Davies in January would be an absolute steal for the club, considering he’d be available cheaply and Manchester United need a consistent left-back given injury problems with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, it seems the most unlikely of the three players. Both Goretzka and Sane would be quality additions to the current Manchester United squad and would improve the club massively if they are to land them in the winter transfer window.
