Palakkad: Finally, it is exit for Dr Sarin from the Congress party minutes after his direct attack on the party leadership including VD Satheeshan and the UDF Palakkad candidate Rahul Mamkoottathil.

The Congress party has expelled the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Digital Media Cell Convener Dr Sarin for anti-party activities as per a press note released by the KPCC.

Sources say that Sarin might join the CPI(M) and will contest from the Palakkad assembly constituency as the CPI(M) candidate. However, a confirmation on Sarin contesting as a CPM candidate is yet to be made officially. The Palakkad district committee has favoured Sarin, however the state committee is yet to make an announcement.

VD Satheeshan, senior Congress leader and opposition leader downplayed the comments made by Sarin and stated that he cannot change his working style and will continue to be in politics and work in the same manner.

P Sarin has engaged in serious anti-organizational activities and violated party discipline. As a result, KPCC President K Sudhakaran MP has expelled him from the primary membership of the Congress party,” General Secretary M Liju said in a press release. The KPCC also announced plans to reorganise the Digital Media Cell urgently.

Sarin, who has now clarified that he will work with the Left, stated that if the CPM requests, he is willing to contest as the Left candidate in Palakkad. Interestingly, Anil Antony, the previous head of KPCC’s media cell, had also left the party, later joining the BJP.

Sarin’s attack on Congress happened at a time when the party decided to field Rahul Mamkoottathil as the UDF candidate for Palakkad. Sarin had questioned the move and said that the decision could backfire for the party. Many leaders have have criticized Sarin for his statements.

Meanwhile the Congress leadership is clearly unhappy at the developments ahead of the By-polls in Palakkad.

K Sudhakaran, the KPCC president had made a reserved and guarded response on the matter. Sudhakaran appealed Sarin to rethink on his decision and not to indulge in ‘anti-party’ activities.
