Karnataka Waqf Board land grab: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured farmers that the government will take no decision to harm them as he instructed officials to take back all notices issued conveying restoring land to the Waqf Board.

Bengaluru: Amid a raging row over the Karnataka government’s notices to farmers stating their land belongs to the Waqf Board which triggered violence and protests in several districts, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday ordered the withdrawal of all such notices.

Siddaramaiah issued the order at a high-level meeting of the revenue, the minority welfare department and the Waqf Board as he expressed displeasure over the recent developments over the Waqf land controversy that triggered violence in Vijayapura and Haveri districts and also a scathing attack on the Congress government by the BJP, TV Kannada reported.

The chief minister has given strict instructions to the officials not to cause any kind of trouble to the farmers. He was also concerned about the action taken by some officials in the matter of notice.

During the meeting, Siddaramaiah said the Waqf issue is being politicised by JDS and BJP, claiming the parties collectively making an evil attempt to disrupt peace in the state.

Siddramaiah’s appeal to people

The chief minister also urged the people of the state to ignore such misleading attempts and avoid listening to false propaganda. He also advised officials to stay vigilant, ensuring that no decisions are made that could negatively impact farmers.

Key decisions from the meeting included the immediate withdrawal of previously issued notices regarding changes to the farmer’s plans. Farmers should not face any disruptions concerning the lands they currently possess. Additionally, any unauthorized amendments made in Pahani without proper notice should be promptly cancelled.
