New Delhi: Hollywood couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially filed for divorce, marking the end of their marriage on the very day of their second wedding anniversary. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the Let’s Get Loud crooner filed for divorce without legal representation on Tuesday (August 20). Notably, the couple’s decision to part ways comes after months of swirling separation rumours.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck file for divorce

The superstar duo, who were once the epitome of Hollywood romance, have cited April 26, 2024, as their date of separation. This filing marks Ben’s second divorce and Jennifer’s fourth.

One of the most surprising aspects of their split is the absence of a prenuptial agreement. Insiders revealed to the Daily Mail that the couple did not sign a prenup before their July 2022 wedding. This means that any income earned by either party over the past two years, including proceeds from lucrative brand deals and film projects, will be considered community property. This lack of a financial safety net could lead to significant legal battles as they work to divide their assets.

Adding to the tension, the court documents indicate that Jennifer Lopez has requested the judge to deny spousal support to Ben Affleck, even though she is not seeking it for herself. This move suggests that their split is not only emotionally charged but also financially complicated.

Why did Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck part ways?

The reason behind their divorce, as reported by TMZ, appears to stem from ongoing financial disputes. Both Jennifer and Ben have reportedly been engaged in heated settlement negotiations for several months, leading to periods of no communication. Their strained relationship became increasingly apparent when they listed their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion for sale in May, just a year after purchasing it for $60 million. By June, the property was publicly listed, indicating their desire to move on.

In July, Ben Affleck purchased a new $20.5 million bachelor pad in the Pacific Palisades, further fueling speculation about their separation. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez is still searching for a new home in Los Angeles.

The couple has not been seen together in public since June 2, and Ben was noticeably absent from Jennifer’s lavish 55th birthday party in The Hamptons in late July, which had a Bridgerton theme. Adding to the intrigue, she was recently spotted leaving Ben’s $100,000-a-month rented house in Brentwood, where she was celebrating his 52nd birthday alongside his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and their children.
