Islamabad: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who landed in Islamabad earlier on Tuesday, for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet, attended the dinner hosted by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif this evening. He is the first finance minister to land in Pakistan in nine years , since Sushma Swaraj’s visit in 2015.
Jaishankar exchanged pleasantries with Pakistani Prime Minister during the reception which was hosted for SCO delegates in Islamabad. Both leaders warmly shook hands with each other and had a brief interaction.
Jaishankar landed at Nur Khan Airbase this evening
Earlier this evening, Jaishankar landed at the Nur Khan Airbase. He was received at the airport by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Director General, South Asia ,Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan. The message was shared by the country’s foreign office on X.

EAM’s visit amid strained ties between both countries
Importantly, Jaishankar’s visit in Islamabad has come at a time when ties between both neighbouring countries remain frostly due to the Kashmir issue and cross border terrorism from across the posted. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted the pictures of his landing in the country on X with a message“Landed in Islamabad to take part in SCO Council of Heads of Government Meeting”. He will be in Pakistan for less than 24 hours.
