IMD predicts more rains in Mumbai; Orange Alert in effect | Check weather forecast

Yesterday, Mumbai, India’s financial capital, recorded a cool, rainy day with a high of 28.8 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees Celsius below average. The low was 24.6 degrees Celsius, slightly cooler than usual. The IMD forecasts continued cloudiness and moderate rains, issuing an Orange Alert.

Mumbai:  Yesterday, India’s financial capital, Mumbai experienced a notably cool and rainy day. The high temperature reached only 28.8 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees Celsius below the average for this time of year. The low for the day was 24.6 degrees Celsius, just slightly cooler than the typical minimum by 0.2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, IMD has predicted cloudy skies catered with moderate rains in Mumbai, and an Orange Alert is currently in effect.

In the last 24 hours, the area saw significant rainfall, with totals reaching 170 mm, resulting in heavy downpours. This influx of rain led to high humidity levels throughout the day, starting at a staggering 97 per cent at 8:30 AM and easing to 86 per cent by 5:30 PM.

Overall, these weather patterns reflect a cooler and wetter trend for the region, deviating from the norm. Meanwhile the weathermen have predicted continuous heavy rainfalls in the region.

Heavy rains disrupts normalcy in Mumbai

Heavy rains in Mumbai have made life even more challenging for residents. After a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening, several areas are facing severe waterlogging. Many commuters found themselves stranded as the rain hit just as they were leaving work, leading to significant traffic disruptions and a complete halt of local train services.

In response to the severe weather and alerts, authorities have decided to close schools. Tragically, five people lost their lives due to the rain, and two others were killed by lightning strikes. The weather department has issued a red alert, warning that heavy rainfall is expected to continue today.
