Mumbai: Despite the official announcement of the Southwest Monsoon’s withdrawal, Mumbai is gearing up for more rainfall in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city and nearby districts, including Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, warning residents to stay prepared for heavy rains and thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday.
IMD officials have noted that certain areas in Mumbai may see substantial rainfall, extending the monsoon’s influence through the week. This unexpected weather pattern has led to the issuance of fresh warnings.

According to meteorologists, the city is likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 65 mm of rain. However, isolated regions may face heavier downpours exceeding this mark on these days.
Continuous rains marking wettest October in recent years
Residents have already been caught off guard by light to moderate evening showers since last Wednesday. Between Sunday and Monday morning, the IMD’s Colaba observatory recorded 35 mm of rain. So far, this October is shaping up to be one of the wettest in recent years, with Colaba logging 100 mm of rainfall, while the Santacruz area has recorded 71.5 mm.

While the official date for monsoon withdrawal in Mumbai was set for October 10, the prolonged activity suggests the city will remain drenched for a few more days.
