Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 is divided into two sections. The first section will be of 76.4 km in length and consist of five corridors. This will cost around Rs 24,269 crore. The second section will consist of a single corridor with a length of 40 km.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has approved the plan to extend the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2 up to a length of 116.4 km. The project is expected to take four years to complete.

The wide project is divided into two sections. The first section will be 76.4 km in length and consist of five corridors. This will cost around Rs 24,269 crore. The second section will consist of a single corridor with a length of 40 km. The cost for this section is yet to be estimated, as per a report by New 18.

As per the directives of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary M. Dana Kishore, The work of section-2 which is the 40 km corridor 9 between Shamshabad RGIA airport and Fourth City, is in survey stage. Currently, the alignment, cost estimates and other details are being determined for this section. The project is a joint venture between the central and the state government with each contributing.

Fund sources for project

Out of the total cost, the Telangana government is contributing 30 percent of the total amount which is around Rs 7,313 crore. The central government will contribute 18 percent which is around Rs 4,230 crore. Four per cent which is around Rs 1,033 crore will be provided through Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The remaining 48 per cent which is around Rs 11,693 crore will be arranged through loan from international institutions like ADB (Asian Development Bank), JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), and NDB (New Development Bank).

Total corridors in Phase 2

The Phase 2 project consists of five important corridor which include, Nagole to Shamshabad Airport whose length is 36.8 km, Raidurg to Kokapet to Neopolis whose length is 11.6 km, MGBS to Chandrayangutta (Old City Corridor) whose length is 7.5 km, Miyapur to Patancheru whose length is 13.4 km and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar which has length of 7.1 km.
