Sea was turbulent, leading to high waves on the coasts of Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, bringing daily life to a standstill.

Heavy rains continued to lash South coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions on Thursday including in Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari districts.

The depression over Bay of Bengal crossed the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh between Puducherry and Nellore on Thursday morning, said the Meteorological Department.

High tidal waves in Kakinada, Vizag:

Sea was turbulent, leading to high waves on the coasts of Uppada in Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, bringing daily life to a standstill. Trees and electricity poles fell to the ground in Kothapalli mandal while houses and beach road in Pallipalem were inundated by waves.

The high tidal waves touched shops at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam and the sea was rough at Odalarevu beach in Allavaram mandal in Konaseema district. The sea water also reached the ONGC plant.

The IMD warned that tidal waves of 1.5 metres are likely and rivulets, stream were overflowing due to heavy rains.

IMD weather inference:

The well marked low pressure area over South coastal AP and North coastal Tamil nadu persists and associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards and is likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a low pressure area during the next 6 hours.

CM Chandrababu Naidu holds review meeting:

CM Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting with district collectors and officials of various departments. District Collectors of Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor explained the current situation to him and the CM advised to be vigilant about water flows in irrigation projects, ponds and streams. Officials explained the flow and water management measures in irrigation projects.
