Haryana Assembly elections: BJP MP Naveen Jindal goes to cast vote on a horse | VIDEO | India News

Voting is being held across 90 seats in the Haryana Assembly elections and the results will be declared on October 8.

Kurukshetra: BJP MP Naveen Jindal on Saturday cast his vote in the Haryana Assembly election and expressed confidence over the saffron party retaining power in the state as he urged the people to ensure participation in maximum numbers.

But what caught the attention was Jindal’s style of arriving at the polling station in Kurukshetra. The richest candidate in this election chose to come on horseback.  “I came here riding on a horse as it is considered auspicious. My mother, Savitri Jindal, who is contesting from Hisar, wants to do a lot for Hisar. So the people of Hisar will decide whom they want as representative,” he said to news agency ANI.

“I exercised my democratic right and voted so that our democracy becomes stronger. I urge all of you to go, vote and make the right choice. It is certain that BJP will form the government in Haryana, so ensure your participation as your every vote is important,” Jindal said after casting his vote.

Voting began for 90 assembly seats in Haryana on Saturday to seal the fate of 1,027 candidates in the fray. The counting of votes will take place on October 8. According to the Election Commission, the state recorded a voter turnout of 22.7 per cent till 11 am.

This election is a high-stakes battle, with the BJP seeking a third consecutive term in power while the Congress aims to reclaim control by capitalising on anti-incumbency sentiments, along with key issues like farmers’ protests and wrestler protests.

The major contenders in Haryana include the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with pre-poll alliances such as the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP)-Azad Samaj Party (ASP).
