The Cauvery Phase-5 water supply project, designed to provide water to all areas of Bengaluru, is scheduled to be launched during the upcoming Dasara festival. This assurance was given by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Urban Development Minister, DK Shivakumar.
Shivakumar reaffirmed during an inspection of key project sites that the government is committed to making Bengaluru a water-surplus city. He inspected key project sites, including the Krishnapriya Kalyana Mandapa, pipeline installations at Kengeri, the water treatment facility at TK Halli, and the pump station at Harohalli. He shared the latest updates on the project’s progress with the media.
India’s largest water treatment plant
The project which is set to serve around 5 million residents of Bengaluru, is one of the largest water supply initiatives in India. With a capacity of 775 MLD, the project includes India’s largest water treatment plant. The project also incorporates an advanced flood control system to ensure uninterrupted operations.
The project features three advanced booster pumping stations located at TK Halli, Harohalli, and Tataguni. These stations will utilize steel pipes ranging from 500 mm to 2200 mm in diameter to pump water to an impressive elevation of 450 meters, which is comparable to the height of a 50-story building. These pipes will be distributed to a distance of 110 kilometres to ensure supply to every hook and corner of the city.
Steel trunk main pipeline will distribute water to reservoirs located in Gottigere, Doddakanahalli, Lingadhiranahalli, SMV 6th Block, Kadugodi, and Chokkanahalli. These reservoirs will then supply water to various areas in Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru South, Batarayanpur, T. Dasarahalli, Mahadevpura, Rajarajeshwarinagar, and Bommanahalli, ensuring that households in the city’s suburbs receive adequate water supply.
Ten lakh water connections already done
Karnataka deputy CM announced that the Cauvery Phase 5 water supply project is nearing completion, with the majority of the major work already finished. He has directed the officials to complete the remaining work as soon as possible to ensure the project is ready for launch during the Dasara festival. 10.64 lakh water connections have already been facilitated by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and it is now set to add another 4 lakh connections through this phase, which will contribute significantly to the BWSSB’s revenue.
